I’m in Hotlanta!
Took a mini vaca to the South which is somewhere I’ve never been before. And you hear so much about good old Southern Food and that humid hot weather so I packed some short shorts to beat the heat and an empty stomach ready to chow down.
Here are some recaps from the trip!
You can’t go to Georgia and not have BBQ!
Here at Old Hickory House (a local joint) This was actually a random stop as I was hungry and needed something quick. Tried Brunswick Stew here which is apparently very common at BBQ joints. It’s shredded pieces of meat, I’m assuming leftover parts from BBQ cooked with tomatoes onions and spices. It tastes a little like sloppy joe in terms of flavor and also canned meat sauce. Not really my cup of tea. I however loved the quaint cabin like feel of the place.
Fat Matt’s Combo Platter-1/4 chicken and 1/4 slab ribs
Loved the ribs, chicken was tender and the BBQ sauce is tangy and sweet and smokey. Awesome flavors! The chopped pork sandwich I must admit tastes waaaay better than it looks. I didn’t want to order it based on the look of it but I tried it and it was surprisingly good. Tender and well flavored.
At Murphy’s for Brunch at Virginia Ave – Opt to sit outside to enjoy the weather. They give you a bread basket of blueberry muffins which were fantastic. The blueberries smashed and baked into the batter and absolutely divine with the spiced butter
And while grits is not something I would order normally I knew I had to give it a try here in Atlanta. And I can say I have been converted. The grits were creamy smooth and so delicious. It had a little hint of sweetness and savory flavors to it. It’s great comfort food.
Loving it here so far and best of all I get to wear a bunch of summer clothing which I don’t get to do in SF:)
