Gluttonous Set with Photographer Alex Lopez
Here is the final set from the Gluttonous Shoot. If you can remember from the previous posts, we started with a Guacamole Cheeseburger that was covered in a cheese sauce and served with Chips. Then there was the Chocolate Sunday Funday where the ice cream was topped with all my childhood favorite candy which I enjoyed in my bathtub in a crazy ridiculous outfit 🙂 and now we have Chili Spaghetti which ultimately leads to eating with my hands in some party cocktail dress! If you’re going to be “bad” and indulge, you mind as well go all the way and have some REAL fun with it right? I’d have to say, the gluttonous sets were the most fun to shoot, just a tad bit more fun than the healthy shoot;)
This dish was actually inspired by a late night food show I use to watch where the host visits all these small diners, mom and pop shops and try the local food. One of the dishes that really stuck in my head was the concept of throwing chili on spaghetti. There was a diner famous for putting chili on everything, from burgers, to hot dogs, fries, rice, potatoes, and spaghetti!! And thought to myself that night, god that looks awful for you but looks so good at the same time. Chili is virtually like a meat sauce with beans so naturally that would make sense to put it over pasta! I decided to make a version of my own chili Spaghetti but with the “Works’!! I’m talking all the toppings you would love on a regular chili, the sour cream, the massive amount of shredded cheddar, the raw diced white spicy onions mixed with a handful of fresh green onions. And for the chili part, I omitted the beans so that it would be my true “meat sauce.” I also added a some smashed cherry tomatoes in my chili while I simmered it to add a little acidity. Chopped roma tomatoes would work too. Are we feeling bad yet? Wait till you see the giant bowl I made and attempted to finish. Here are the photos from the shoot. Buon Apetite!
Then I topped my pasta with the chili I made (you can use your favorite chili recipe or canned chili if you wish). I added a massive heap of shredded sharp cheddar. Then some chopped white spicy onions for that kick.
So now the indulgent eating begins. Be sure to twist that spaghetti and mixed the chili with the sour cream and cheese together thoroughly. This will allow the cheese to melt a bit and the sour cream to blend into the chili to create a creaminess.
Do try this at home. Find your favorite chili, make it, toss it over some spaghetti and top it with your favorite goodies and you’ve got yourself a delicious concoction. If spaghetti is not your thing, try fries, baked potato, maybe even a crispy piece of baked pita bread. Have fun with it! I know I did.
