Napa Weekend Part 1

Went to Napa this weekend and got to try Bottega which is Michael Chiarello’s Italian restaurant located in Yountville. If I haven’t already made it apparent in many of my posts, Italian food is one of my favorite cuisines so I was ecstatic to be dining there and possibly seeing Michale Chiarello. And it’s not because he appeared on Top Chef. I actually had met him before he made appearances on Top Chef or did Top Chef Masters. He had actually dined at House of Nanking several times a few years back. He was extremely nice and sent my dad and I cookbooks. So how was Bottega? It definitely met my expecations. The place first of all is absolutely gorgeous. It’s rustic with modern touches. You see sleek white carrera marble mixed in with hammered copper glasses and exposed beams with red bricks. The place has a really warm glow to it and makes you feel like you can hang out with friends for hours upon hours and feel like you’re at home. And how was the food. All the dishes were very good but the highlight of my meal had to be the pastas. The pastas were perfectly cooked and the sauces were made just right. In fact I enjoyed the pastas so much that I went back the next day for a late afternoon snack after all the wine tasting. And guess what, I went back to try two other pastas. 4 down and 5 more to go! Will be back for sure. Below are some photos from Bottega. Enjoy!

We started with the:

Burrata Autunnale – Creamy mozzarella burrata with roasted butternut squash, caramelized mushroom & shallots, brown butter vinaigrette, sherry vinegar caviar

Then for our primi we had:

Ricotta Gnocchi, salsa di pomodoro della Nonna, pecorino

Red Wheat Linguine w/ Bolognase

For Secondi we had:

Wood-Oven Roasted Whole Fish with Meyer lemon, coal roasted fennel, citrus & Belgian endive salad with saffron vinaigrette

Wood Grilled Chops of Grass-Fed Lamb fuyu persimmons with tarragon, fennel seeds, white balsamic vinegar, California olive oil, creamy ancient grain polenta

For dessert:

Panna Cotta Vaniglia “Eggless” vanilla custard parfait, cranberry conserva, caramelized pineapple gelatini

Zeppole al Lemoni, cooked to order Italian donuts, Meyer lemon curd & berry Earl Grey conserva
